Ghana Armed Forces engineers have completed the 175.6km Accra–Kumasi Expressway right-of-way clearing in 19 weeks, marking a major infrastructure milestone for Ghana.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has successfully completed the clearing of the 175.6-kilometre right-of-way for the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, accomplishing the assignment in 19 weeks against an estimated 20-week timeline.
The achievement represents a significant milestone in the preparatory phase of one of Ghana's major infrastructure projects and demonstrates the capacity, discipline and professionalism of the GAF's engineering units.
The GAF engineers were tasked with clearing the designated corridor to facilitate subsequent stages of the Accra–Kumasi Expressway project, including feasibility work and detailed engineering design. Earlier in the project, the Ghana Armed Forces indicated that the right-of-way clearing formed a critical part of preparing the corridor for the next stages of development.
The progress has been closely monitored by the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces. In July, the Chief of the Defence Staff commended GAF engineers after they had cleared 108 kilometres, representing 61 per cent of the clearing works, while urging the team to maintain momentum through to successful completion.

The successful completion of the assignment highlights the increasingly important role of the Ghana Armed Forces in supporting national development through specialised engineering capabilities.

The Accra–Kumasi Expressway is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti Regions, while supporting the movement of people and goods and strengthening economic activity along the corridor.
Government has identified the expressway as a flagship infrastructure project under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme, with the proposed six-lane expressway expected to improve travel times, road safety and transport efficiency between Accra and Kumasi.
