Omanbapa Deftech Ltd is spearheading discussions toward the establishment of a “Built in Africa” ecosystem for the local assembly of laptops and computers in Ghana, in partnership with Ewis Colombo Limited, a technology and manufacturing company based in Sri Lanka.
The proposed initiative seeks to position Ghana as a regional hub for ICT hardware assembly, skills development, and digital infrastructure manufacturing across Africa.
As part of the strategic rollout process, Omanbapa Deftech Ltd has engaged several key Government of Ghana institutions, including the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, the Ministry of Special Initiatives, the Ministry of Communications, and the Ministry of Education.
These engagements focused on aligning the project with Ghana’s national digital transformation agenda, educational technology expansion, and industrialization policies aimed at strengthening local manufacturing capacity within the ICT sector.
Ewis Colombo Limited is also expected to engage relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to jointly develop and refine the implementation roadmap for the project.
This collaborative approach is intended to ensure regulatory alignment, technical feasibility, and long-term sustainability of the assembly ecosystem.
The initiative is expected to deliver significant national benefits, including:
- Local assembly and production of ICT hardware
- Job creation and technical skills development
- Technology transfer and industrial capacity building
- Reduced reliance on imported computing devices
- Enhanced digital access for education and public sector use
- Strengthening Ghana’s position as a West African ICT manufacturing hub
